CALL FOR ENTRIES: 25TH ANNUAL JURIED FINE ART COMPETITION The Gertrude Herbert Institute of Art is currently accepting entries for its 2005 juried fine art competition, A Sense of Place. Open to participants from throughout the U.S. , this 25th annual event is intended to recognize the outstanding quality and diversity of work being generated by contemporary American artists. Works in the following media will be accepted: drawing, painting, photography, printmaking, ceramics, sculpture, and mixed media. Cash awards are available, including Best of Show and two Jurors Awards. All entries must be postmarked by July 8, 2005 . A Sense of Place 2005 is generously sponsored by Rex Property and Construction Management and www.downtownaugusta.com. The juror for the 2005 competition will be Carmon Colangelo, Director of the Lamar Dodd School of Art at the University of Georgia . Mr. Colangelo holds a BFA in printmaking and painting from the University of Windsor, Ontario, and an MFA with a concentration in printmaking from Louisiana State University . Colangelo has exhibited widely throughout the United States and beyond, with over 100 shows in the past two decades. His works have been displayed at the National Museum of American Art, the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Bibliothèque Nationale in Paris , and the Museo de Grabado in Buenos Aires . A Sense of Place will be on view from September 16 October 21, 2005 in the Institutes Main Gallery. Awards will be announced at the opening reception for the exhibition on Friday, September 16 from 6:00 8:00 PM .
